Southeastern Sleep Disorders Center
Sleep disorders and lung cancer might seem at first glance to be completely unrelated, but physicians at Salem Chest Specialists treat both as part of a spectrum of ailments involving the lungs and chest. Technological advances now help these specialists refine specific diagnoses and carefully target treatment for these and other illnesses. Sleep disorders affect more than sleep and include a range of problems including insomnia, narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome, night terrors/sleepwalking, snoring, and sleep apnea. Sleep-disordered breathing--apnea or hypopnea--can predispose a person to high blood pressure, heart failure, arrhythmias, insulin resistance, stroke, and increased risk of workplace accidents. Excessive daytime sleepiness from these disorders is also associated with an increased risk of motor vehicle accidents, at the cost of an estimated 1,400 lives each year in the United States. Because most sleep disorders adversely affect breathing, it was a natural fit for the pulmonary specialists to zero in on the problem and establish comfortable rooms at Southeastern Sleep Disorders Center (SESDC) so they could help their patients sleep better and avoid more serious health issues.
Southeastern Sleep Disorders Center is convenently located at 2928 Maplewood Ave. SESDC features comfortable rooms furnished with Queen Beds, televisions and private bathrooms. A recliner is available upon request.
Southeastern Sleep Disorders Center is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
